At
Physicians Physical Therapy Service
rehabilitation always begins with a careful and complete evaluation
by our licensed physical therapist which will help them identify the
physical deficits which are contributing to a loss of function and/or
increased pain. This evaluation helps the therapist choose a strategy
to correct each specific problem, and is designed for the individual
patient. A therapist may employ specialized exercise, therapeutic
modalities such as ultrasound, traction, or electrical stimulation,
for example, and/or hands-on techniques to stretch, strengthen, or
mobilize tissue and joints. The patient's personal goals, such as
returning to work, sports, or simple, daily activities are our physical
therapists number one priority.
Physicians Physical Therapy Service
understands the importance of keeping the referring physician/employer
constantly informed of the patient's progress. Open communications
with the physician/employer, therapist, and patient is critical in
obtaining the goals of complete rehabilitation.
Physicians Physical Therapy Service
is in the process of upgrading their current highly secured, HIPAA
compliant practice management system to a state of the art, electronic
medical record product. Our vision is to communicate effectively,
efficiently and responsibly with our referring physician/employer.

specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation. The variety of diagnoses
treated includes virtually any injury/disorder affecting the musculoskeletal
system.
Below are listed some of the more common diagnoses treated, a list
of various dysfunctions typically associated with the diagnoses, and
a description of techniques, modalities, and procedures utilized by
physical therapists at Physicians Physical
Therapy Service.

Typical Dysfunction
Decreased range of motion, strength, and endurance (cardiovascular
or muscular), diminished balance, poor body mechanics, decreased proprioception/coordination,
edema, pain, spasm, altered gait, postural difficulties, and difficulty
with normal daily activity.
Assessments
Comprehensive individual assessment to determine the reason for dysfunction
and determine the optimal treatment.
Procedures
- Therapeutic Exercise - Specialized programs to address
specific strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, proprioceptive
and coordination deficits.
- Joint Mobilization - a variety of techniques involving
the application of pressure to facilitate an increase in motion
and/or proper alignment of a joint (spinal or extremity)
- Manual Therapy/Muscle Energy Techniques - the selective
use of passive and active soft tissue tension to facilitate an
Increase in motion and/or proper alignment of a joint (spinal
or extremity)
- Biofeedback - visual or auditory feedback to facilitate
an improvement in muscular contraction or relaxation.
- Massage - techniques to degrade scar, promote relaxation,
decrease pain, and increase tissue elasticity.
Modalities
- Ultrasound - decreases pain, increases tissue elasticity,
degrades scar, increases cellular activity, and increases circulation.
- Electrical Stimulation (various types) - decreases pain,
increases circulation, and decreases edema.
- TENS Unit - home electrical stimulation unit designed
to provide pain relief only.
Iontophoresis - system of medication delivery to focal regions
using electrical current (most often used to deliver anti-inflammatory
medication).
- Phonophoresis - the use of the mechanical properties
of ultrasonic waves to deliver medication to focal regions (most
often used to deliver anti-inflammatory medication).
- Traction - applied to the cervical or lumbar spine to
decompress spinal segments or discs.
- Moist Heat Packs - decreases pain, promotes muscular
relaxation, and is used for pre-exercise warm up.
- Ice Packs/Ice Massage - decreases pain and decreases
inflammation.
